FIVE DAYS AFTER MY EMERGENCY C-SECTION, MY HUSBAND THREW OUT OUR NEWBORN AND ME—NEVER KNOWING I OWNED EVERYTHING
Chapter 3 / 4

Chapter 3

PART 3 - THE CHILD MARTHA HID

471 words

“Who was she?” Taylor asked.

Martha opened her mouth, but Spencer answered first.

“No one you need to worry about.”

Taylor called Daniel and put him on speaker.

“The woman is Rachel Mercer,” Daniel said. “The footage has audio. Eight years ago, she had a son named Noah. Spencer is the father.”

Kaylie turned sharply toward Spencer.

“You told me Lisa was your first child.”

Spencer said nothing.

Daniel continued. Rachel had come to the mansion the night Taylor went into labor because Spencer had stopped sending the money he promised her. She had threatened to expose the truth about Noah.

That was what the message meant.

Lisa was not Spencer’s first child.

Taylor looked at Martha.

“You knew.”

Martha’s fear hardened. “It happened before the wedding. We handled it.”

“Handled it how?”

“With Solomon Development money,” Daniel said.

For nearly six years, payments had been disguised as community outreach expenses. Rent, tuition, medical bills,

and monthly cash transfers had all passed through a consulting company that performed no actual work.

More than seven hundred thousand dollars had been taken.

Taylor stared at Spencer.

While she was being rushed into emergency surgery, he had been inside the mansion with Martha trying to keep Rachel quiet.

“You knew I could die,” Taylor said.

“Do not exaggerate,” Martha snapped.

Something in Taylor’s face went completely still.

Spencer stepped closer. “Noah happened before us. I was protecting what we built.”

“No,” Taylor said. “You were protecting what you stole.”

Then Daniel revealed something else.

Kaylie Wagner Consulting had received nearly half a million dollars in eighteen months.

Kaylie went pale.

“Spencer said those were approved retainers.”

“They were not,” Daniel replied.

Taylor understood.

The affair had been financed with her company too.

The downtown apartment, trips, gifts, and so-called client expenses had all been billed through Solomon Development.

Kaylie stared at Spencer.

“You said you owned the company.”

“I run it.”

“You said the shares were yours.”

“They should be.”

Taylor almost laughed.

Instead, she called security.

Two guards arrived minutes later.

Spencer protested immediately.

“I am president of Solomon Development.”

One guard checked his tablet.

“Your access has been suspended.”

Martha pointed at Taylor. “She cannot throw her husband and his mother onto the street.”

Taylor looked at her.

“You told me to be grateful he allowed me to live here.”

Martha fell silent.

“Now you know who was allowing whom.”

As security escorted Spencer, Martha, and Kaylie toward the stairs, Daniel sent Taylor a preliminary forensic report.

Her name appeared on page after page.

Spencer had been forging her authorization for years.

Then Taylor reached the final document.

It was dated the morning Lisa was born.

Spencer had signed Taylor’s name while she was in emergency

surgery.
