MY HUSBAND BEAT ME INTO INTENSIVE CARE, THEN MY PARENTS CHOSE HIS SIDE OVER MINE
Chapter 2 / 4

Chapter 2

PART 2 - FROM MY HOSPITAL BED I TOOK BACK EVERYTHING THEY USED

303 words

A neighbor heard the violent impact and called emergency services.

Garrett told the paramedics that I had fallen down the stairs. He even held my hand reassuringly while they carried me into the ambulance.

In intensive care, the doctor told me I had three br0ken ribs, a punctured lung, internal bl/ee/ding, and severe b:ruis:ing around my throat. When the police came to question me, I could barely force out a few words.

I called my parents before contacting an attorney.

“Dad,” I whispered, struggling just to breathe. “When they discharge me, I need somewhere safe to go.”

Silence followed.

Then my mother said, “Garrett has a temper, but you know how to push his buttons.”

My father let out a weary sigh.

“You chose this. Now face it.”

Behind their voices, I could hear champagne glasses clinking. They were celebrating the house they were preparing to close on that very week, a gated property with marble floors and a swimming

pool, a place they could never afford without my financial support.

I had guaranteed their mortgage because their credit history was too weak. They had called it something a daughter was supposed to do for her parents.

I closed my eyes.

“I understand,” I said.

Then I ended the call, opened the secure banking application on my phone, and sent a single message to my attorney:

Withdraw my guarantee immediately. Freeze every authorization carrying my signature. Also obtain the records from Andrews Development. I’m ready to use them.

Garrett believed a hospital bed had left me powerless.

My parents believed my loyalty could never run out.

Neither of them remembered that I was the compliance attorney who had structured every company, trust, loan, and property they relied upon.
