Chapter 4 / 4

Chapter 4

Part 4: Her Family Gave Her Perfect Sister to the Mafia Boss—Until He Looked Across the Room and Chose Elena

484 words

Part 4 — “I Want to Speak with Elena”

And then he spoke.

“I want to speak with Elena.”

The words, simple as they were, hung in the air like a declaration.

And just like that, the world tilted.

For a moment, everything in the room froze.

Even Victoria’s face, usually so perfectly composed, shifted in subtle disbelief.

She looked at Elena as though she’d never seen her before, as if the woman sitting at the end of the table could possibly be the one the most feared man in Chicago wanted to address.

Elena could feel every eye on her as she slowly stood up.

The shift in the atmosphere was palpable.

Whispers buzzed through the room as people tried to process the situation.

And Adrien?

He didn’t look at her with the cold indifference she had expected.

There was no calculation in his gaze.

Instead, it was something else entirely—something unspoken, yet undeniable.

Elena’s breath caught in her chest as she

walked toward him, unsure of what this moment would bring, but knowing, somehow, that this was the first time she wasn’t invisible.

She wasn’t the daughter who quietly sat by while her family’s expectations consumed her.

She wasn’t the silent observer of their games.

She was here.

She was finally being seen.

“Are you sure about this?” Victoria asked, her voice shaking ever so slightly as she stood beside Adrien, her gaze flicking from him to Elena.

The woman who had always been the star of the Whitmore family suddenly seemed unsure, and that was the first real sign that the world was shifting.

She wasn’t the only one who mattered anymore.

“Yes,” Adrien said, his voice deep, measured.

His gaze never left Elena as he spoke.

“I’ve heard enough about you from others. But I want to hear your side. I want to know who you really are.”

Elena’s heart pounded in her chest, and for the first time in years, she felt her pulse race not from fear, but from something else—something she hadn’t felt in a long time:

Possibility.

She didn’t know what this moment meant yet, but she knew that it was hers.

She wasn’t the perfect daughter.

She wasn’t the one who had been groomed for a life of luxury, with all the right answers and connections.

She wasn’t Victoria.

But she was someone in her own right.

And maybe, just maybe, it was time to stop hiding that fact.

The silence in the room pressed down on her, the weight of it heavy, expectant.

But then, with a final glance at her family, Elena took a step toward Adrien, the moment of truth finally settling in her bones.

She wasn’t just the woman who had been overlooked her entire life.

She wasn’t just

someone’s second choice.

She was Elena Whitmore.

And tonight, she was going to make sure everyone knew it.

THE END.
