My Sister Announced Her Pregnancy at My Wedding, But Someone From Her Past Walked In With a Shocking Secret
Chapter 1 / 4

Chapter 1

PART 1 - The Pregnancy Cake That Stole My Wedding

728 words

“If everyone came here to celebrate your wedding, they can celebrate the fact that I'm going to be a mother too.”

My sister Daphne said that just as Lucas and I were about to cut the wedding cake, in front of more than a hundred guests, with a smile so big it looked like she had practiced it in front of a mirror.

My name is Charlotte. I'm 28 years old, and that Saturday I married Lucas, my lifelong boyfriend, after 5 years together. The wedding was held at a beautiful estate in Asheville, with blooming flowers, live acoustic music, white tables, and all the excitement you carry for months as if it were a precious treasure.

But my younger sister, Daphne, had never been able to stand the idea of something being mine.

She had been like that since we were children.

If I got good grades, she would cry because nobody congratulated her. If it was my birthday, she would mysteriously get sick or throw a tantrum until my parents ended up comforting her instead. If I shared some good news, she would immediately announce something even bigger.

And my parents, as always, would say:

“Oh, Charlotte, don't exaggerate. She's your sister. You have to understand her.”

So when Hailey, the

baker making our wedding cake, called me nervously one week before my wedding, I wasn't as surprised as I probably should have been.

“Charlotte, I need to tell you something,” she said.

“Your sister asked me to make another cake for your wedding day. She said you had authorized everything.”

I felt a chill run down my back.

“What cake?”

Hailey sighed.

“A pregnancy announcement cake. She asked me to bring it secretly and take it out after the toast. She even offered to pay me double if I didn't tell you.”

I stayed silent for a few seconds.

Then I let out a dry laugh. The kind that doesn't come from happiness, but from exhaustion.

I could have uninvited her.

I could have called her and confronted her.

I could have started a huge argument before the wedding.

But I didn't.

Because I knew exactly what would happen. My

parents would say I was exaggerating, that Daphne only wanted to share her happiness, and that I was jealous.

So I decided to let her go through with it.

Except this time, I wasn't going to stand there and watch her steal another important day from me.

On Saturday, everything was beautiful.

Lucas cried when he saw me walk down the aisle. My mother cried too, although I wasn't sure whether it was because of me or because she was excited to show off the wedding. My father walked me down the aisle as if he had always treated me fairly.

For a few hours, I allowed myself to believe that the day really belonged to me.

Until it was time for the cake.

Lucas took my hand.

The camera was ready.

The guests were applauding.

Then Daphne stood up from her table.

“Before you cut the cake, I want

to say something very important.”

My mother immediately looked excited.

My father stood up.

And from the kitchen, a waiter appeared carrying a small cake decorated with baby shoes.

“Congratulations on the new baby,” it said across the top.

The reception erupted.

My mother rushed toward Daphne in tears.

My father hugged her husband, Wyatt, as if he had just won the lottery.

Several relatives pulled out their phones. Others shouted congratulations.

Daphne placed one hand over her stomach while accepting hugs with the other, like the queen of a festival.

Lucas squeezed my hand under the table.

“Are you okay?” he whispered.

“Perfectly,” I replied.

Because I already knew.

Once everyone had finished congratulating her, Daphne turned toward me with the triumphant smile I had known since childhood.

“Sorry, Charlotte. Now we can continue with your wedding.”

The audacity was so unbelievable that several guests looked uncomfortable.

I smiled.

“Of course, Daphne. I'm actually very happy for you. It's just that I think someone special is missing from the celebration of this news.”

Her smile froze.

The reception doors opened.

And then Brandon walked in, Daphne's ex-boyfriend from before she married Wyatt.

The moment she saw him, the hand resting on her stomach began to tremble.

You won't believe what was about to happen…
